BIOGRAPHY

Michael Carrasco has been playing guitar, supplying vocals, and writing songs for more than half his life. His decades-long portfolio evidences numerous eclectic, creative and collaborative band projects; spanning widely from punk and indie rock to flamenco. His current singer/songwriter project nods to folk and Americana.

Dubbed “Saint Michael Anthony” in his recent solo debut, his album in progress reveals that he fits the self-appointed title. Raw catharsis pours forth from songs like “Silver Lining” and “The Feeling of Your Skin,” are balanced by the inquisitive spirit of his folk style guitar and hopeful strings and harmonica accompaniment. The ‘saint’ surfaces in the humility and grace of an artist who grapples with deep loss and sorrow, but points no fingers, except toward himself.

Prior to Sainthood, Carrasco fronted and was the primary songwriter for the bands The Jeffersons, Fall (the season), Sheffield Drive, Saints and Sinners, and The Motel Pines. Each project had their own brushes with success. But most notably Saints and Sinners signed a publishing deal with 5 Alarm Records leading to several songs from their debut LP being used on NBC’s Friday Night Lights DVD release. The Motel Pines’ only full length album debuted at 169 on the NACC charts and stayed in the top 200 for over 6 weeks. It also reached number one in several college markets nationwide.

Carrasco’s trajectory is what you might hope for in a seasoned artist: the angst-ridden questions of his youthful punk rock self, a catalyst that moves through subsequent iterations with passionate vocals, unafraid of confessing disenchantment with climbing ladders and accumulating wealth. To follow this path is to witness an artist who, over time, only becomes a more recognizable and authentic self. Carrasco is a solo artist singing the hallowed praise of a man grateful for what’s there to meet him at the other side; those ‘true’ things that cannot be purchased with egregious wealth, nor amassed from superstardom.

There’s more to say about his upcoming debut full-length album, but why not listen for yourself?
